About Getting to Zero
Getting to Zero is the name we have given to a process of systematically redeploying assets and income to minimize your income tax footprint in retirement. It’s important to remember that retirement plans such as 401(k)s and IRAs have never been taxed. And when you choose to make work optional and take withdrawals from your retirement plans, they will be taxable to you at your current tax bracket rate.
The problem is, we don’t know what income tax rates will be in the future, although we believe they are likely to be higher than current. Even if Congress does nothing, tax rates are already slated to increase in 2026. And many experts believe taxes will have to double in order to satisfy our ever-growing national debt.
So if you don’t know what you will pay in taxes when you withdraw your retirement funds, do you really know how much money you have?
Having clarity on what resources are available to fund your retirement is a fundamental premise of financial planning, but an uncertain tax environment makes that difficult. Therefore, we have formed a strategic alliance with the David McKnight group, (www.DavidMcKnight.com) best-selling author of the books The Power of Zero, and Tax Free Income for Life. Through this alliance we have access to software, tools, experience, and knowledge that can help us to guide our clients towards getting to the zero income tax bracket at retirement. Because remember, even if taxes double, twice zero is still zero.
